Dry Season is here – Now is the time to look into that Orlando Roof Replacement
November 27, 2023With hurricane season running from June through November in Florida, hurricane season is now in full swing. It is important for Floridians to be aware of the dangers that come along with our hurricanes and tropical storms. The 2024 hurricane season is projected to be above normal. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), waters in the Atlantic Ocean are nearing record warmth, and the Pacific Ocean has developed La Niña conditions. La Niña conditions refer to the northward push of the jet stream that comes off the Pacific Ocean and can cause weather changes all around the world. The NOAA states that these two conditions combined create a great environment for strong hurricanes and tropical storms to form.
The damage these storms cause can be astronomical. After only two years removed from Hurricane Ian, the NOAA and the National Hurricane Center estimate the total damage from that storm to be over $112 billion to the state of Florida. In 2023, Hurricane Idalia caused between $2.6 and $4.2 billion of extensive damages. Along with a staggering amount of building, retail, and association damages, these terrible storms claimed many lives as well. Knowing these facts, it is important to take the proper precautions and treat each hurricane and tropical storm as a serious matter. In taking steps to ensure safety before a disastrous storm, it is important to be aware if you, or any property you manage, is in a flood zone, as much of the damages from the storms listed above were results of extreme flooding.
In preparation for the potential hurricanes this calendar year, it is also crucial to know the condition of your association’s roof(s). A few of these conditions to analyze are the age of your roof(s), current damage, and potential leaks. These factors could lead us to believe that your roof either needs repairs or replacement. If you do not have a sufficient roof to withstand a powerful storm, the integrity of the building can be compromised, and the safety of owners can be at risk.
